Where was the image shot?
Joshua Tree National Park, in an area called Planet X. The climb featured here is the namesake trad line, Planet X, 5.8.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MKIV
Lens: 24-105 at 24mm
Shutter Speed: 1/500 sec.
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 1000

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
There wasn't much time for special preparation for this shot! We were out climbing with a small crew, losing daylight quickly, when my boyfriend decided he wanted to try Planet X as his first trad lead. While a friend belayed, I ran off with the camera to capture the moment! I took photos from a few different angles as he climbed, but when I found this Joshua Tree perfectly framing the route, I knew it was THE shot! I quickly set up and was so stoked to get this beautiful photo of the top out!

How long have you been shooting?
I've always loved film and photography, and have been shooting most of my life. Since falling in love with climbing several years ago though, I've found a renewed interest in shooting as well! I love capturing all the amazing moments and beautiful places from my climbing trips, and have been working hard to improve my photography skills.

What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
I love shooting landscapes, climbing photos, and detail shots of natural objects such as rocks, moss, and trees.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I usually go out with a very small crew of 2-3 other climbers and photographers. I find it's a great way to push each other and learn from each other, both on the rock and behind the lens.
