Where was the image shot?
Kawaihae, Hawaii

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Sony A6400
Lens: Sony 10mm
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 200

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
The key to shark photography is to be in the right place at the right time. The deep blue is a desert and you can spend all day on it without encountering anything. When I see a fin or hear someone call shark, I’m fins first into the water. I took this shot before redirecting the shark with my camera and proceeded to keep my eyes on him until he faded into the deep blue.

How long have you been shooting?
I’ve been shooting for 6 years now.

What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Definitely sharks. It's an adrenaline rush being with an animal so powerful and majestic. To be in their realm and capture their beauty is a privilege.

Where would be your dream location to take photos?
My dream is to photograph the mighty great white sharks off the coast of Guadalupe Island in Mexico.

Who are some photographers that inspire you?
Hawaii is home to many talented photographers. Three of them that inspire me are CJ Kale, Mark Mohler and Jeff Milisen.

What excites you about photography?
I love the ability to capture nature and its beauty and share it with others who may never have the opportunity to witness it for themselves. I have been fortunate to be able to help people understand and care for the common misunderstanding and fear of sharks through my photography.
