#52weeksofnature Photo Contest Week 12 Winner

The winner of Week 12 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Anke Kuballa (@ankekuballa). We've seen a lot of great photos from Joshua Tree National Park, but it takes a perfectly framed moon rise to show just how majestic the place really is. Anke has won $150 and is getting her winning image printed on a HippyTree t-shirt. Explore the Nature Photography Collective section on our site to view t-shirts of past winners.

Joshua Tree National Park, CA

Camera: Sony a6300
Lens: Sony 24-70mm
Shutter Speed: 1/100
Aperture: f/4.0
ISO: 125

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
I was on a solo camping trip for my birthday. It was my first time in the park, so once golden hour hit I started running around trying to capture the trees in all their glory.

How long have you been shooting?
Since 2011, but taking it more seriously since 2017.

What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Landscapes and nature have always been my favorite. Although I recently got more excited about sport and wedding photography. Connecting to someone through your lens can make a moment even more special.

Where would be your dream location to take photos?
Hiking through the jungle of Rwanda to see mountain gorillas would be a dream come true.

Who are some photographers that inspire you?
Cristina Mittermeier and Ami Vitale have always been up there. Their passion for conservation and ability to bring stories to life is mind blowing. Alex Strohl, Finn Beales and Chris Burkard’s pictures just make you feel excited about life.

What excites you about photography?
The ability to explore new places and see the world. I’ve been obsessed with traveling way before I had a good camera, now it gives me another good reason to travel more and connect with new subjects.
