15 YEARS OF HIPPYTREE, 2 of 15 // MYSTERY TREES 2005
This year (2021) marks our 15th year in business. To celebrate we’re looking back at memorable stories and key milestones that have defined the brand over the years. There’s not a ton to say about this old news clip from 2005. Yes it’s real and yes it really happened. In hindsight it probably wasn’t the smartest or most eco-conscious thing to do. But you need to remember we were hoodlums in our early 20’s looking to make a statement. We were getting ready to launch a company with no money and didn’t want to be another corporate apparel brand.
There was no Instagram or Facebook back then. Brands didn’t sell product on their websites because online stores weren’t a thing. If you wanted to build hype and get a message across you needed to either spend thousands of dollars to run print ads in magazines, or come up with a wild-ass idea and take it to the streets for free. That was our mentality at the time. There were repercussions and the law eventually caught up with us, but we’ll save that for our next story.
