Week 32 Winner

The winner of Week 32 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Cameron Seals. There is something eerie and elegant about a predator shot in black and white beneath the surface. To some this photo may evoke fear, while to others it is a portrait of beauty. Cameron has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating $100 to the Surfrider Foundation in his name. Learn more about Cameron below.

Where was the image shot?
Off the coast of Jupiter, Florida.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Canon 5d Mark 3
Lens: Canon 16-35mm
Shutter Speed: 1/1000
Aperture: f/5
ISO: 320

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
Being in the moment and just experiencing the beauty of these animals is all that it takes. The camera is just my tool to capture the beauty that's in front of me.

How long have you been shooting?
About five years.

What's your camera of choice?
The only camera I own is my Canon 5d Mark 3. So far I love this camera and it has not let me down.

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Definitely the ocean, waves, marine life, etc. Sharks and waves are probably at the top of the list.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I like to shoot with some of my friends that are also into taking photos. Sometimes I do shoot solo; it depends on my mood. Being alone out in the water really frees my mind.

What excites you about photography?
The exploration aspect of it. Also, the ability to freeze time and create it into something that’s considered art its super cool.
