The winner of Week 13 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is William Techler (@williamtechler). Sometimes turning down an unfamiliar road leads to a dead end and other times it leads to a view like this. Mount Washington, Cascade Range, Oregon. William has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating $100 to the Surfrider Foundation in his name. Learn more about Andy below.

Where was the image shot?
On the Santiam Pass in Central Oregon.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Olympus E500
Lens: Zuiko 14-45mm
Shutter Speed: 1/160'
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 100

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
I had an extra hour on my drive over the Santiam Pass, so I decided to turn right onto a forest road to see where it might take me. Sometimes you end up at a dead end and sometimes you are rewarded with a view like the one above.

How long have you been shooting?
I’ve been shooting for a few years now, mostly with my sisters or parents’ camera but not serious until last summer when I purchased my own camera.

What's your camera of choice?
I am shooting with the Sony A6000 but looking to upgrade to a Sony full-frame mirrorless camera.

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
My favorite subject to shoot is landscapes, especially mountains and lakes but recently started shooting waterfalls as well. I really enjoy being able to smooth out the flow of water.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I enjoy shooting with others as it provides the opportunity to learn and one can integrate another person into a scene without having to use a timer or remote. However, if no one is available it doesn’t stop me from going out to shoot alone.

What excites you about photography?
Our world is filled with beauty and photos have a way of bringing up memories, emotions and feelings in people. My goal is to share those views I encounter with other people, while trying to instill those feelings I experienced standing in that spot.
