The winner of Week 48 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Levi Himes (@wildplaceswildpeople). Levi balanced perspective, color and composition to create this ethereal photograph of the Lofoten Islands. Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
The only preparation was racing the sunset up the steep Reinebringen trail. A limestone staircase took us most of the way before we scrambled up a muddy ridge and could see the fjords.
How long have you been shooting?
I've only had my camera for roughly 3 years, but before that I would borrow cameras whenever I could.
What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Any time I am outside I have my camera with me attempting to capture those moments of dramatic light, landscapes, and cloud formations. Above all I value the story, the feeling, and the experience behind a photograph.
Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I always prefer to have friends with me when I'm shooting.
What excites you about photography?
Photography is like a language. You can hear a lot from an image, and I get excited when a photograph speaks to me.
