Where was the image shot?
What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
Lens: Sigma 150-600mm
Shutter Speed: 1/2500
Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
Just monitoring the surf, tide, weather and relying on 30 years of shooting at this location. Filling my backpack with food, water, batteries and digital film for an all day shoot.
How long have you been shooting?
40+ years. The first 7 years of my life I lived in Ethiopia and Singapore, so being exposed to travel, different cultures and photography created a love for photography very early.
What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Honestly, I just love shooting. The subject doesn’t really matter, just as long as I am behind the camera telling stories and creating images.
Where would be your dream location to take photos?
For shooting waves, I would love to shoot in Australia and the islands of the South Pacific. Humpback Whales in Tonga and surf in Tahiti and Fiji.
Who are some photographers that inspire you?
I love so many different kinds of photography, so I will leave so many inspirational photographers out, but here we go: Perri Schelat, Alister Benn, David Thompson, Guy Tal, Nick Selway, Joe Garza, Anthony Tortoriello, Bryan Pezman, Nick Page, Sue Trower, Russell Ord, Ray Collins, Ben Thouard, Warren Keelan, Adam Duffy, Chris Burkard, Sean Davey, Ted Grambeau, Darren Jew, Art Brewer, Tim McKenna, Brian Bielmann, Brent Bielmann, Zack Noyle, Suzanne Mathia, Candace DeFreece-Dyar, Charlotte Hamilton Gibb, Greg Du Toit, Nick Brandt, Pete Souza, Carr Clifton, David Muench, Edward Weston, Philip Hyde, Joe Cornish, & Art Wolfe.
What excites you about photography?
Storytelling, people, travel and adventure. I love connecting the viewer to the subject and sharing God’s amazing creation with them.
