#52weeksofnature Photo Contest Week 6 Winner

The winner of Week 6 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Travis Bowden (@cigarsandigloos). Sometimes it just takes the addition of a simple element like water to make a popular location to photograph like "The Wave" seem all the more unique again. Travis has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating $100 to the Access Fund in his name. Learn more about Travis below.

Where was the image shot?
The Wave, Arizona.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Sony a6000
Lens: Sony Zeiss E 16-70mm f/4 OSS
Shutter Speed: 1/200'
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
I was very fortunate to draw a permit to hike The Wave on my first attempt this past October. After getting rained on nearly our entire hike in, the sun broke through and presented us with some incredible light on the rain soaked red rocks. In addition to shooting the trademark shots of The Wave, the pools of rainwater created some unique shooting perspectives.

How long have you been shooting?
As a hobbyist for the last six or seven years.

What's your camera of choice?
I really enjoy my Sony a6000. At some point I'll upgrade, but I have yet to be let down with this camera.

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
I really enjoy landscape and nature, with an occasional attempt at astrophotography. But my absolute favorite is capturing memories of my boys on adventures around our home state of Utah.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
Just me and my trusty Manfrotto tripod.

What excites you about photography?
Capturing images that can vividly take you back to the moment you took them and experience memories, like this epic trip to The Wave, over and over again. I also love sharing incredible visions and experiences that others may never have the opportunity to enjoy.
