The winner of Week 39 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Nick Murray. Water photography is tougher than it looks and takes a lot of time and effort, but when you a nail an image like this it's all worth it. Nick has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating $100 to the Surfrider Foundation in his name. Learn more about Nick below.

Where was the image shot?
New Smyrna Beach Inlet, Florida.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Sony a7r II
Lens: Zeiss 55mm
Shutter Speed: 1/2500
Aperture: f/1.8
ISO: 100

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
No special preparation was needed. Just the usual making sure the water housing port was prepped and clean so no water spots appeared during the shoot.

How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting professionally for eight years.

What's your camera of choice?
My favorite camera body to use is the Sony a9.

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
The ocean, waves, and surfing as well! I like to bring the viewer an in depth look into moments that regularly go uncaptured.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I collaborate and shoot with other artists occaisionally, but most of the time I create my images solo. I do meet up with fellow surfers and friends for sessions at breaks though! I grew up surfing as a young grom and I still love capturing the moments that we all share in the lineup. My passion for the ocean and surfing runs deep!

What excites you about photography?
Traveling to new locations and capturing the beauty of the ocean or special moments in time. But most off all, meeting fellow photographers, artists, athletes and individuals that become friends along the way on the journey.
