#52weeksofnature Photo Contest Week 3 Winner

The winner of Week 3 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Jared Brown (@jaredanthonybrown). Waves break in a blink of an eye, but it’s not until they are captured in a photograph that we are able to appreciate their curves and natural beauty. Jared has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating $100 to the Surfrider Foundation in his name. Learn more about Jared below.

Where was the image shot?
Seal Beach, California.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Nikon D7200
Lens: Nikkor 55mm
Shutter Speed: 1/1600'
Aperture: f/6.4
ISO: 6400

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
It all came down to being in the right spot at the right time. It was a pretty peaky day and I happened to be in perfect position for this picture perfect A-frame.

How long have you been shooting?
I started shooting in the water last summer, but picked up a camera in 2017.

What's your camera of choice?
I currently use a Nikon D7200 but hope to upgrade very soon!

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
I love shooting waves that I can go back and mind surf for hours. I started shooting waves because I was tired of surfing alone when it was really good and no one believing me. Now I can snap a few photos and share my experience with the world.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
When it comes to water photos, it seems like I am never alone. I like to take advice from guys in the water since I haven't been doing it for long. When it comes to outdoor and nature photos, I am usually shooting with my brother Justin who continues to teach me new things.

What excites you about photography?
For anything outdoors, it's trying to capture angles I haven't seen before. For anything in the ocean, it's knowing an image I capture may never happen again.
