#52weeksofnature Photo Contest Week 18 Winner

The winner of Week 18 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Pete Gardner (@realworldescapist). There's nothing wrong with a little self-reflection while on a week long trek through the Accursed Mountains. Lake Koman, Albania. Pete has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating to the Access Fund in his name. Learn more about Pete below.

Where was the image shot?
Traveling across Lake Koman heading into Albania’s Accursed Mountains for a week of trekking.

What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Sony a6000
Lens: Sony E PZ 16-50mm
Shutter Speed: 1/80'
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 100

Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
Waves from the boat and wind ripples were spoiling the mirror effect. A determined goat was also trying to get at the sandwich in my pocket. Once he separated me from my lunch, I could focus on leaning past the waves to concentrate on breaks in the wind when reflections emerged.

How long have you been shooting?
I picked up a nice camera the night before heading out on a trip to Antarctica three years ago. Upon returning home and looking through the images I was hooked.

What's your camera of choice?
Sony Alpha. Mobility and traveling light is key for my style so mirrorless is the only option.

What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
I'll snap anything that catches me as unique, stunning or even just something I want to remember later on.

Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
Mostly solo. However I’m always down to meet new people and collaborate on IG. Drop me a message!

What excites you about photography?
It's easy to be overloaded by stimuli in modern society. Photography forces an intense focus on one fleeting event in the universe; whether it be a facial expression, the view from a mountain or the movement of wind across water. My images are a record of places visited, people met and experiences lived.
