#52weeksofnature Photo Contest Week 20 Winner
The winner of Week 20 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Kai Czarnowski (@kczars). Just because it’s cold and brisk outside doesn’t mean the camera needs to stay in your bag. Kai has won a $100 gift code to hippytree.com and we are donating to the Access Fund in his name. Learn more about Kai below.
Where was the image shot?
The Tolkien Range outside of Pemberton, British Columbia
What camera did you use and what were the settings?
Camera: Sony a7rii
Lens: Sony 35mm
Shutter Speed: 1/2000
Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
None at all. I stopped to tie my shoe and when I looked up my friends had kept walking around a little bend in the lake. I went for my camera as fast as I could.
How long have you been shooting?
On and off for around 5 years, but I’ve taken it more seriously the past two years.
What's your camera of choice?
Sony for sure. I love my a7rii because it is so light for climbing and hiking plus the resolution is great.
What’s your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Anything involving adventure, but specifically rock and alpine climbing.
Do you shoot with a crew or shoot solo?
I love shooting with friends, but usually I'm the only one with a camera. I always think it’s exciting to go out with a couple different photographers. They understand when you want to stop for a photo. It’s cool when you get back and you can see how everyone’s different style makes for different images.
What excites you about photography?
I really like being able to take something that’s already happening and put my own spin on it. That’s one of the biggest reasons I love nature and adventure photography. Everything is going to happen whether you're there or not, but I love getting a chance to make art out of it.
