The winner of Week 25 of our #52weeksofnature photo contest is Sarah Jane Murray (@yoursarahjane). We've seen a lot of photos from Tunnel View in Yosemite, but this combination of light, color and clouds takes this vantage point to a whole other level. Was there any special preparation required to capture the photo?
It had been storming all day but the weather said the clouds would start to break at sunset. So in good faith I drove up to Tunnel View and sat in the car to wait it out. I had my tripod and umbrella ready for a sunset and was surprised with a rainbow and sorbet sky.
How long have you been shooting?
15 years ago in high school my Dad took me on day trips to the Sierras and the coast to begin teaching me the basics. Within the last year I started my own business shooting professionally.
What's your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Anything that has delicious light or a good story, preferably with a side of adventure.
Where would be your dream location to take photos?
Antarctica, Namibia, Faroe Islands, Vietnam, Madagascar… how does one decide?
Who are some photographers that inspire you?
Sebastião Salgado, Jimmy Chin, Lynsey Addario, Cory Richards, Chris Burkard… and my Dad.
What excites you about photography?
Being able to experience and capture the world’s stories first hand and sharing those frozen moments in time with the rest of society. Inspiring them to have their own adventures beyond their comfort zones.
